Assam Don Bosco University emerged from the Don Bosco Society's aim to be present where society's professionals and leaders are formed. Initiated in early 2006, the project gained approval from the Rector Major and General Council on 10th January 2007. Intense planning followed, including meetings, hiring consultants, and securing land. The proposal, submitted on 8th November 2007, led to the government issuing a Letter of Intent on 29th March 2008, marking the University's Foundation Day. An Ordinance on 3rd December 2008 and an Act on 9th January 2009 established the University, inaugurated on 6th December 2008.
