BIDS Courses

Each year the courses at the Bangalore Institute of Dental Sciences commences in the first week of August. Several students from all over India and abroad enroll themselves for the Bangalore Institute of Dental Sciences Course. The college has developed a very robust system of courses throughout the duration of the curriculum. This college provides UG as well as PG courses along with research fellowship programs.

The UG program is of 5-year duration(four years academics, one year internship) for BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery). The PG students undergo a program of MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) with a duration of three years.

BDS

BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery): The course duration is of five years. The first four years is solely dedicated to the academics. The last one year is specified for the rotating internship program where the students get hands-on practical in the field of medicine and surgery. Each subject under this course comprises of 3 internal assessment examinations. The average of these marks is sent to the university at the end for the academic year.

2) BDS 2nd Year

• Pre-Clinical Conservative- only practical and viva-voce
• Pre-Clinical Prosthodontics- only practical and viva-voce

3) BDS 3rd Year

• General Medicine
• General Surgery
• Oral Pathology and Oral Microbiology

4) BDS 4th Year

• Oral Medicine and Radiology
• Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry
• Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics
• Periodontology
• Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge
• Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics
• Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

MDS

MDS (Master of Dental Surgery): The college also offers a course in Master of Dental Surgery under PG program surgery. The candidates who wish to do PG needs to have an undergraduate degree in dental (BDS) from a university which is recognized by the Medical Council of India. The students should also complete their one year internship program. The MDS course is for the duration of 3 years and it is a career oriented program. There are several specializations available under the MDS curriculum. Some of the other popular specializations in MDS are Periodontics, Orthodontics, Public health dentistry Oral medicine & Radiology and many others. The MDS course prepares candidates to be both practitioners and advisory consultants in their chosen areas of specialization which also aids the eligible candidates at Bangalore Institute of Dental Sciences Placement. Each Student under the PG program are asked to maintain a log book or work diary of their participation in the trainings conducted by department.
