Courses Department-wise detail:

Biotechnology: Duration – 4 Years The Department of Biotechnology was established in 2002. The department offers a Bachelor of Engineering. Their vision is to become the centre of education excellence and impart quality education to the graduates to deliver excellent solutions for mankind. The department also encourages the students to take up industrial training in their area of interest during the inter-semester holidays. A language lab is available to improve both oral and written communication skills.

Civil Engineering: Duration – 4 Years The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the three branches of the college. In the year 2008, the UG programme was given the academic autonomous status by VTU which enabled the college to have their own curriculum suited to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes in students. It has three PG courses namely Environmental Engineering, Construction Technology, and Transportation Engineering and Management. The department is recognized by VTU as a Research Centre and as a QIP Centre by MHRD, which has changed the status of the department from just a UG department to a research-based learning centre.

Computer Science and Engineering: Duration – 4 Years Department of Computer Science and Engineering was started in 1983. In 1992 the department had implemented a new PG programme - M Tech (CSE). The Research Centre, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, started in 2010 under VTU, Belgaum. The department invests in machine learning, cloud computing, big data analytics, wireless networks, social networks analysis etc.

Electrical and Electronics: Duration – 4 Years Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering was established in 1946 and offers Undergraduate Programme in Electrical & Electronics Engineering and a PG Programme in Power Electronics. The department has well equipped laboratories. The department is well networked with industry and premier institutions for activities like research, curriculum development, internships, projects and training.

Electronics and Communication Engineering: Duration – 4 Years Electronics engineers have played an important role in improving the quality of human life and also contributed to the economic growth of the nation and world at large. The Department of Electronics & Communication understands the importance of engineering students to follow the latest competitive trends. The department started with a UG programme in 1971. It then added two PG programmes in Electronics, Digital Communication and VLSI Design and Embedded Systems. Since 2011, it has been recognized as a research centre for PhD programmes under the Quality Improvement Programme by AICTE.

Industrial Engineering and Management: Duration – 4 Years The Students are trained in different technologies in the field of Industrial Engineering and Management. A separate curriculum has been designed as per the data collected from Alumni and Industry. Under VTU the college also runs an M.Tech course in Manufacturing (PDM) and Product Design on a part-time basis. The department in BMS College of Engineering is a research centre under VTU. The Department Labs are equipped with top line computers to help students in CAD/CAM, ERP, modelling, drafting and simulation. The department has a club called the Industrial Engineering Club (INDEC).

Mechanical Engineering: Duration – 4 Years The department introduced a postgraduate Machine Design program in 1986. Another post graduate programme in the field of Manufacturing Science and Engineering was introduced in 2014. All the programs are funded by different government organisations and supported by many industries. The department has a large number of industry linkages varying from automotive to manufacturing domains.

Medical Electronics: Duration – 4 Years BMSCE started the branch of Medical Electronics in 1992 to expand its academics in the fast-growing field of healthcare technologies. The department introduced M. Tech in Instrumentation and Biomedical Signal Processing in 2013. The department has various collaborations with major research institutes like Stanford University, Oxford University, Maastricht University, Indian Institute of Science, Narayana Nethralaya, Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences and many more.

Telecommunication Engineering: Duration – 4 Years The Department of Telecommunication Engineering was established in 1986. It offers a four-year UG programme in Telecommunication Engineering. The faculty of the department practise innovative methods in the Teaching-Learning-Process (T-L-P) that leads to effective implementation of Outcome-Based-Education (OBE). The curriculum involves modern engineering tools like Mat lab, Lab VIEW, Multisim, Xilinx, Mentor Graphics, Code-Composer-Studio, Qualnet and HFSS simulation tools. The department has published 203 publications (47 Peer-Reviewed Journal publications, 126 International Conference publications, 30 National Conference publications).

Information Science and Engineering: Duration – 4 Years The focus of the department is to provide students with in-depth knowledge in the field of computer and information technology through the following two academic programmes:

M. Tech – Product Design and Manufacturing (PDM) (3 years – Part Time)

M. Tech. - Computer Network and Engineering (CNE) (2 years) The Department of Information Science and Engineering was established in 1987. It has close connection with companies such as EMC, TCS, SAP and IBM to promote student projects. It has an outstanding placement record with an average placement of 95% for over the past 3 years. Since 2011 research activities were promoted in the department. Current research areas are classified into Information Retrieval, Natural Language Processing, Cloud Computing, Biometrics, IOT and Communication Networks.

Management Studies and Research Centre: The Department of Management Studies was started in 1992 to promote quality education and research in management. Apart from the regular classes, the department imparts knowledge through Guest Lectures, Extension Lectures, Industrial Visits & Meet the CEO series. The students also get experience in organizing a Management Event through ‘QUEST’ which is an inter-collegiate event organized by the department. The International Conference organized by the department gives the students an opportunity to do research and publish papers.
