Bodoland University, Kokrajhar, popularly known as BU is a state university founded on February 28, 2009 by the Assam Legislative Assembly under the Bodoland University Act, 2009. It is one of the advancing universities in lower Assam and the only higher education institution in western Assam to fulfill the region's needs and concern for overall development.

The University is committed to the academic growth of lower Assam in general and the BTAD region in specific. BU provides people from the region with the opportunity to pursue higher education. It also serves the educational needs of neighboring states and nations such as Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh. The University's beautiful campus is located in Rangilakhata, Debargaon, 8 kilometers north of Kokrajhar. The University's location allows students and researchers from across the border to easily reach the University.

There are 17 Postgraduate Departments and 48 Affiliated Degree Colleges, as well as 4 DIETs and three B.Ed. Colleges associated with Bodoland University. The Academic Curriculum at Bodoland University is based on the UGC's Choice-Based Credit System. In addition to basic studies, Bodoland University offers a Diploma in Bamboo Technology, a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights and Education (PGDHRE), and a variety of diploma programs. Bodoland University Hostel

Bodoland University provides a separate hostel for boys and girls. There are 2 hostels for boys and 4 hostels for girls. The hostel rooms are spacious and well-furnished. The hostel premises is monitored by CCTV and safety surveillance cameras around the clock. A round-the-clock housekeeping service keeps the hostel rooms clean and safe.
