CEED 2024

CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) is a joint entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for admission to the Master of Design (M.Des) programs offered at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, and IIITDM Jabalpur. The exam tests the aptitude of the candidates in the field of design and is held annually. The CEED 2024 exam will be held on 21st January 2024 (Sunday) and the online registration process with regular fee is from 3rd October to 13th Nov 2023.

The CEED exam consists of two parts, Part A and Part B

  • Part A is a computer-based test that assesses the candidate's visual perception, logical reasoning, creativity, and communication skills.
  • Part B is a hand-drawn test that assesses the candidate's drawing, creative, and problem-solving skills.

To be eligible for the CEED exam, candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Design/ Interior Design or equivalent or a professional diploma in Design or equivalent. Candidates who are in the final year of their bachelor's degree or equivalent are also eligible to apply.

From the date of examination, the CEED score is valid for one year. The score is used for admission to the M.Des program at the participating institutes. The selection process for the M.Des program includes a personal interview, which is conducted by the respective institutes.

CEED 2024 Application Process

To apply for CEED 2024, candidates must follow the below steps:

  • Visit the official CEED website: Candidates must visit the official website of CEED (ceedapp.iitb.ac.in/CEED/home.jsp) to start the application process. The website will provide all the necessary information related to the exam, including the application form, important dates, and eligibility criteria.
  • Register on the website: Candidates must register on the website by providing their personal and contact details. They will receive a unique login ID and password, which they must use to log in to the website.
  • Fill in the application form: After logging in, candidates must fill in the application form with the required information, such as educational qualifications, work experience, and contact details. They must also upload the required documents, such as their passport-size photograph and signature.
  • Pay the application fee: Candidates must pay the application fee, which is INR 1900 for all women candidates, INR 1900 for (SC/ST/PwD) candidates, and INR 3800 for all other candidates. Using a credit card, debit card, or net banking the application fees can be paid online mode.
  • Submit the application form: Once the application form is filled in and the fee is paid, candidates must submit the form. They must take a printout of the form and keep it for future reference.
  • Wait for the admit card: After the application process is completed, candidates will receive the admit card. They must print out their admit card after downloading it. Important information including the exam date, time, and location will be on the admit card.

CEED Syllabus

CEED 2024 has been divided into 2 parts “A” and “B”.

Part - A

  • Visualization and spatial ability:Pictorial and diagrammatic questions to measure understanding of 2D and 3D shape and object transformation and/or manipulation, as well as their spatial linkages, as well as knowledge of practical and everyday mechanical and scientific notions.
  • Practical and scientific knowledge:To assess the candidates ability to apply scientific principles to everyday objects, promoting critical thinking and problem-solving for practical use.
  • Observation and design sensitivity: The ability to detect and analyze hidden aspects in ordinary objects, people, situations, and events. Paying great attention to details, analyzing, reasoning, classifying, inferring, and anticipating are all examples of skills. Small changes in visual attributes and aesthetic outcomes are perceived.
  • Environmental and social awareness: General understanding of environmental aspects such as climate, population, water, vegetation, pollution, weather, natural resources, and so on, and their consequences for a product, image, infrastructure, and environmental design. Awareness of the design's historical and cultural significance, the history of the designed artifact, and socially responsible and environmentally sustainable design answers. Art, sculpture, and literary history.
  • Analytical and logical reasoning:The ability to examine information, whether qualitative or quantitative in nature, and identify patterns within it. The ability to weigh other points of view, arguments, or solutions against proper criteria. Capability to detect concealed bias or preconceptions, as well as if evidence and argument support conclusions. Ability to utilize logic and organized thinking to choose which of several statements in a brief passage is the most accurate response to a stated inquiry. Data interpretation, puzzles, and patterns.
  • Language and creativity:Understanding and use of Standard English. Reading comprehension and grammar understanding are required. Ability to think imaginatively about alternatives, discern unique options and think outside the box.
  • Design thinking and problem-solving: Use of visual comparisons, metaphors, signs, and symbols. Understanding of complexity, the ability to detect issues, produce alternatives, evaluate possibilities, and select solutions.

Part - B

This part will have questions related to the following topics:

  • Drawing:The ability to sketch products, people, or scenes with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading.
  • Creativity: The ability to look beyond the box and come up with fresh and different solutions.
  • Communication abilities: The ability to explain concepts and ideas clearly using words and graphics.
  • Problem-solving abilities: understanding of the user and context, knowledge of material attributes and their suitable usage in design.

No specific textbook or study guide is recommended for its preparation as CEED 2024 is an aptitude test. Candidates can, however, sharpen their sketching, rendering, and visualization abilities. Previous year's question papers are available on the official CEED website.

CEED Exam Preparation

  • Candidates must review the CEED 2024 Exam Pattern before beginning their preparation. Part A and Part B comprise CEED 2024. CEED Exam Pattern

CEED entrance exam pattern is set by the IIT, Bombay. Exam pattern helps students to understand the structure of the question paper readily. The mode of examination is online. It is both a computer-based and pen-paper-based exam. The question paper is split into two parts wherein part A contains objective type questions and part B contains subjective type questions. The time limit for the exam is total 3hrs which is divided into 1 hrs for part A and 2 hrs for part B. The language used for carrying out the test is English.

CEED Ranking

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay typically holds the CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) once each year in January. The CEED 2024 exam was held on January 21, 2024, and the results will be published on the CEED website. You should watch the official website for announcements and updates regarding the test and its outcomes. Following the administration of the CEED 2024 exam, the results will be released on MARCH 06, 2024 on the, on the CEED website which includes each candidate's exam score. The scorecard will also indicate the candidate's qualification status based on the cutoff scores established by the many institutions providing the design programs.

CEED Counseling

The CEED 2024 results will be declared on MARCH 06, 2024, hence the counseling process will happen soon. Only candidates who have scored the expected marks will be shortlisted to attend the counseling process. The eligible candidates can look for the counseling dates and instructions on the official website. There is no common admission through the CEED examination. Candidates have to register themselves separately at their preferred institute. The counseling process will be held in online mode. Candidates should produce their required documents, both original and photocopies. Candidates won't be admitted to their desired institutes if they don't provide the documentation requested by the institution at the time of application.
