The DSNLU Act of 2008 established the Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU) at Sabbavaram, Anakapalli district, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. The Andhra Pradesh University of Law (Amendment) Act, 2012 (Act No. 15 of 2012), which was published on May 14, 2012, in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette Extraordinary, also changed the name of the university from "Andhra Pradesh University of Law" to "Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University." Numerous national law schools have become very important due to the growing significance of high-quality legal education.
Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University seeks to provide high-quality, multidisciplinary legal education while taking both domestic and global societal concerns into account. The goals of the university include: Organizing lectures, seminars, symposia, workshops, and conferences to disseminate information about the law, the legal system, and how it impacts the growth of a country.
Currently, the University provides foundational programs in law: BA LLB (Hons), LLM, Ph.D., and LLD. The BA LLB (Hons) degree lasts five years, while the PG-level LLM program is a one-year, full-time study. The lowest time commitment for both the Ph.D. and LLD programs is three years, while the maximum time commitment for both is six years. In addition to degree programs, the university collaborates with Centurion University of Technology and Management in Odisha to offer PG diploma programs. Candidates who want to practice law in India must pass the All India Bar Exam (AIBE), which is administered by BCI.

The boy's and girls' hostels each have 160 rooms, with two students sharing a room per University policy. DSNLU has a canteen structure that can hold 350 students at once.
