Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)

The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is 5 years full time undergraduate course. There are 240 teaching days in each academic year and one year is for internship. The course covers all the basic subjects of human anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, dental material, prosthodontics, microbiology, embryology and histology, dental pharmacology, periodontics, orthodontics and dentistry.

Master of Dental Surgery (MDS)

The college also offers courses in post graduation which is a three years full time masters program. Students get specialise in a course they choose. Oral Medicine and Radiology:

Oral Medicine and Radiology is the specialisation that mainly focuses on the diagnosis of complex and medical disorders affecting the jaws and mouth. Students are taught how to examine the oral cavity and recognize the various oral diseases. Graduates are trained to treat the oral mucosal diseases, salivary gland disorders and facial pain syndrome. They can also provide dental care for patients with complicating medical disease. These areas in dental practice are of increasing importance as the population of people with bone diseases including oral cancer are increasing.

Public Health Dentistry:

Public Health Dentistry is trains the students in both theoretical and practical aspects of dental public health and in oral health research. The students of the department are involved in various health programmes like social welfare initiatives, rural health and school health programmes. The students get to learn to manage oral health programs and evaluate oral health systems. They are well trained to design oral health surveillance system and communicate on public and oral health issues.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery:

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) is a specialty of dentistry which focuses on the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases related to face and jaws. The department also provides diagnosis and treatment of Maxillofacial Pathologies and facial surgery. Tooth extractions of both simple as well as complex varieties are clearly taught. It also further provides specialized training in the field of dental implants and lasers in Maxillofacial Surgery.

Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics:

It is a branch of dentistry that focuses on the art and science of diagnosis and treatment. It also helps in the prevention of diseases and defects of the teeth. Also it helps to retain and restore the normal function of teeth and enhance their quality. Many more topics are included like restoring decayed teeth, cosmetic and aesthetic smile designing. And also Bleaching/whitening of teeth, Root canal treatment, Reconstruction of a fractured tooth, closing spaces, altering shape, size and contour of teeth using veneers and crowns, surgical treatment to retain severely damaged teeth.

Prosthodontics Crown and Bridge:

Prosthodontics is the specialization in dentistry which teaches to restore the function of dental and oral tissues using aesthetic principles. The students are trained to carry out treatment ranging from simple cases to difficult ones. They also carry out routine treatments as well as complex cases involving complete dentures, cast partial dentures, fixed prosthesis, implants and maxillofacial cases. Along with cases many number of short and long studies are carried out for their paper presentation and publications under the supervision of the faculties.

Periodontics and Orthodontics:

It is a branch of dentistry that encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of supporting tissues of the teeth and their artificial substitutes. The Department has high instructional quality associates and committed in expanding its educational program. It also includes diagnosis of oral diseases, periodontics and dental implant treatment planning, comprehensive therapy, and follow-up of patients with periodontal diseases. Various innovative treatment methods are introduced to the students which includes dental implant placement, laser assisted surgeries and microsurgery.

Dentofacial Orthopedics:

Dentofacial orthopedics is the specialty of dentistry which focuses on the alignment of the teeth and the dental arches. The specialisation includes diagnosis, prevention, interception, and correction of malocclusion and other abnormalities of the developing or mature or facial structures. It offers a full range of orthodontic services for patients. The faculty members are experienced orthodontists who completed specialty training in orthodontics. They directly supervise residents who are undergoing a three-year course of study to become orthodontic specialists.

Ph.D

The college also offers Ph.D specialisation in Oral Medicine and Radiology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics.
