GBU aims to be an internationally renowned integrated academic and research institution that fosters a lively intellectual community capable of inspiring significant changes for society's overall growth and development. The first program offered by GBU in 2008 was the MBA. Undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate programs are available in the School of Information and Communication Technology. The Department of Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary department with a combination of expertise from several fields, including computer sciences, mathematics, microbiological, plant, and animal sciences. Moot court practice, debate, essay writing, and project work are all activities that law school students engage in.
The Uttar Pradesh Act (9) of 2002 established Gautam Buddha University. The University started its first academic session at its 511 acres of campus at Greater Noida in August 2008. The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) and the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA), two organizations under the control of the Uttar Pradesh government, provide all funding for GBU. The university is primarily centered on research and offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and Doctoral degrees in engineering, business administration, computer applications, biotechnology, and Buddhist studies.

For MBA Executives, there is no entrance test, admission is based on merit in the qualifying examination Admission to MBA is through an entrance exam conducted by the University. However, if seats are still vacant after GBU-ET, then CAT/MAT/GMAT/CMAT/XAT Score, will be applicable.
Admission to B.Design is through Creative Test followed by an Interview or portfolio review.
All the master course admission is through a university-conducted entrance test.

The Corporate Relations Cell of GBU ensures that students are allowed to streamline their career interests Students in their last year are eligible to apply for campus placement. To participate they should have a minimum score of 6.0 CGPA and should not have any backlogs. Students are allowed to secure only one job if the gross package is more than 5 lakh per annum, but if it is less than 5LPA they can apply for a company whose gross amount is more than 5LPA.

The University provides 11 hostels for boys and 7 hostels for girls. The buffet-style dining hall provides fresh hygienic food. Single seater accommodation is provided for all boys hostel and most girls hostel and dual sharing is provided only for girl students.
