Guru Kashi University (GKU) has been established by the Act of the Legislature of the state of Punjab to provide education at all levels in all disciplines of higher education. It is a residential University that provides separate hostel accommodation to 7000 boys and girls. After effectively adapting to the global education paradigm, the university has achieved unprecedented heights in the field of higher learning.
Balaji Education Trust, Talwandi Sabo, founded in 1997, is the organization that founded Guru Kashi University. GGS Polytechnic and later Graduate and Postgraduate programs were what gave the school its start in 1998. The GGS College of Engineering & Technology was founded in 2001, and the GGS College of Education followed in 2005. GGS Institute of IT and Research was founded in 2006, and the GGS College of Nursing and GGS Collegiate Public School followed in 2009. Eventually, "Guru Kashi University," which was founded in 2011, became the umbrella organization for all courses.

On the university's campus, there is a sufficient hostel facilities. The Internet and other contemporary amenities are available in hostels. It has got five boys' hostels. They are Himalaya, Shivalik, Nilgiri, Baba Deep Singh, and Aravali hostels. Girls also got five hostels.
