Himgiri Zee University has been established for the vocationalisation of higher education under Act No. 17 of 2003 of the State Legislative Assembly, Government of Uttaranchal (Act 2003, Uttaranchal Adhiniyam Sankhya 17 of 2003). Shri Subhash Chandra, Chairman of Essel Group of Industries and Zee Telefilms, had assembled a group of dedicated anthropologists, sociologists, economists, and development communications professionals to set up TALEEM Research Foundation in Ahmedabad in 1995 to make a difference in education and employment. Setting up the Himgiri Zee University was one of the priorities of the Taleem Research Foundation. To harness human energy toward sustainable economic and social development, Himgiri Zee University was founded to satisfy the expanding demand for qualified human resources in a range of social, educational, scientific, technological, and professional organizations.

The university was founded to develop skilled labor for a variety of industries, including social, educational, scientific, technological, and professional organizations for social and economic growth. With a mission to provide higher education not only face-to-face but also through various advanced technology modes so that people who are deprived of education for whatever reasons can either start it again from home, the university carries the vision of developing itself as a world-class university among others and vocalizes about higher education through different modes of learning in the process of meeting current industry requirements.

The college offers a variety of optional departments and streams that students can select based on their preferences, such as schools of forestry, fisheries, agriculture, school of architecture, engineering, sciences, school of education, social work, humanities, school of media, journalism, filmmaking, school of management, hotel management, legal studies, school of vocational studies, school of clinical research, pharmaceutical, and health care sciences, and swayam online courses.

The college includes all the necessary courses for prospective students to experience a variety of cultures while on campus. Students can select from more than five courses in each department, depending on their areas of interest. It permits online admissions; the applicant can log in and finish the application form as required on their official website, which has a section exclusively for admissions. To enroll in college, a student must meet the eligibility standards for the various courses and degrees that they want to take. The campus also has excellent amenities and is very well-equipped. The students can study without any hassle as the campus is calm and maintained well. The Library offers access to a wide variety of databases and cutting-edge information systems in addition to traditional printed materials. The library has about 30,000 books, 4000 titles, and several journals and papers that span a wide range of topics. The goal of the library is to meet the academic and research needs of students, but it also provides faculties with access to materials and reference assistance.

Himgiri ZEE University Hostels

For boys and girls, the university has designated separate AC and non-AC dorms. In their rooms, the pupils are given basic amenities such as a cot, study table, chair, bedside table, and cabinet.
