The Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University, Meghalaya popularly known as ICFAI, Meghalaya was established under Section 4 (2) of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University, Meghalaya Act 2005 (Act No.12 of 2005) passed by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. The University has been notified in accordance with Notification No.EDN.261/2004/124. Dated, 22-02-2006. Under Section 22 of the UGC Act 1956, the University is authorized to confer degrees. The University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), India, and also a member of the Confederation of Indian Industry.

The University's mission is to provide world-class, innovative, career-oriented professional postgraduate and undergraduate programs through technology-assisted methodologies that equip students with the necessary professional and life skills, as well as social sensitivity and a strong sense of ethics. The University will seek to create an intellectually exciting environment for research, particularly in fields related to the state's and nation's socioeconomic and cultural growth.

ICFAI, Meghalaya placement department places a high priority on helping students find suitable employment when they have completed their studies. The placement department of the University oversees the training and placement activities. The cell assesses student performance levels and makes sure they are adequately corporate-ready. Every year, the department conducts placement for final-year students.
