The university has a well-developed Students Welfare Section, University Library, Bio-informatics Centre, and training and placement facilities in addition to ten colleges in three faculties, the director of instruction, the director of research, and the director of extension education. Each college features a few highly developed and specialized departments, such as the first Veterinary Nuclear Medicine Center (VNMC) in India, Mumbai, the Embryo Transfer Technology Laboratory, and the Mineral & Hormonal Assay Laboratory, located in Akola, etc.
The Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU) is an agriculture state university established in December 2000 under The Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University Act, 1998. The University was formed by transferring five veterinary colleges, one postgraduate institute of veterinary & animal sciences, and one dairy technology college from the state's four agriculture universities. The constituent colleges were relatively old, even if the University was still young. With the new ideas of research and extension responsibility, the University intends to start and organize research initiatives with the other Universities, and institutions of ICAR.
