The MBBS Admissions in Karnataka is purely based on the entrance exam called National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, widely known as NEET-UG it is a national level entrance test which means if a student qualifies for the NEET-UG exam is eligible to get admission in any govt. medical college/ deemed to university/ private medical institution that is recognized by the MCI.

The aspirants that choose to write the NEET-UG entrance exam can avail seats on State Quota Seats and All India Quota (AIQ). Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) Counseling:

The KEA Counseling is segregated into 3 stages:

Stage 1: In this stage, the students who have appeared for the exam are supposed to select the college for their choice, once the student has qualified the exam with a valid score they are eligible for the next stage which is given below.

Stage 2: On the basis of the rank scored by the student,is counseled about which college is among the list according to the score and a seat is then allocated. The student has to pay a certain amount of fee to reserve the seat in the college of their choice.

Stage 3: This is the last stage where the KEA members call the remaining students of the slot for the seats that are left over.

Eligibility Criteria:

MBBS Syllabus

The course of MBBS lasts up to 5.5-year program including a 1-year of compulsory internship. It is divided into 3 phases and 9 semesters. The first phase is called the “Pre Clinical Phase” it consists of the first 2 semesters and the subjects to be covered are:

Anatomy: Embryology, Gross anatomy, Genetics and Neuro-anatomy.

Biochemistry: Cancer and cancer makers, biological cell, metabolic pathways etc.

Physiology: Nerve muscle, blood, general physiology, respiratory system, reproduction, kidney etc

The second phase is called the “Para Clinical Phase” it begins with 3rd semester to 5th semester the subjects are:

Forensic Medicine: Forensic medicine and toxicology.

Pathology: Systematic Pathology and General Pathology

Pharmacology: Central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, general pharmacology etc.

Microbiology: Gastrointestinal infections, bacteriology, bacterial staining and cultivation, virology, immunity infections etc.

The 3rd Phase is known as the “Clinical Phase” it starts from 6th to 9th semester and the subjects are:

Obstetrics and Gynecology: Forensic medicine and toxicology.

Pediatrics: Systematic Pathology and General Pathology

Anesthesiology: Central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, general pharmacology etc.

Medicine: Gastrointestinal infections, bacteriology, bacterial staining and cultivation, virology, immunity infections etc.

Psychiatry: Depression, bipolar disorder, behavioral science, personality disorder, anxiety neurosis, schizophrenia, OCD etc.

Surgery: Appendix, skin, head and neck, veins, arteries, breast, small intestine, stomach, colon and rectum etc.

Internship: The internship period begins at the last 1 year of the course, where the students are sent to hospitals for clinical practices. They work under senior doctors in different departments and learn about the different type of people with different problems, about machines, in operation theatre about surgery etc. Internships are necessary because the intern needs to learn to diagnose the problem and treat the patient with the right treatment, it also helps the student to learn about how to tackle the emergency issues and settle the patient with the right type of treatment needed in that situation.
