Civil Engineering: In the year 1971, the Civil Engineering Department was established. The vision is to enable the students to emerge as a good professional in the education of civil engineering. Bachelor of Technology in Civil department is a 4 year program. The career growth for Civil engineers is massive in India and abroad. This is a very versatile branch among all the engineering branches. It also leads the students to placements in the public and private sector. The department was founded as a Research Centre in the year 1994 which was a milestone achieved for the college. More than 250 papers have been released in reputed journals and conferences. The Civil department frequently conducts workshops, FDP, site visit, project tours and several others. It also organizes platforms like 'Sameeksha' for the development of students.
Mechanical Engineering: Around the year 1962 the department for Mechanical engineering was first found. At first the department started with an intake of 60 students. The department has grown rapidly over the last 52 years and today it is capable of accommodating an intake of 180 students with strength of 47 teaching staff. The Mechanical engineering department offers the bachelor program for the duration of 4 years along with a Master's degree in Manufacturing science & Engineering and in Computer Integrated Manufacturing. The intake for the master's program is 18 as of till date. The faculties of the Mechanical department have published numerous international and national journals, patents and books in their name. The department is also decorated with several projects funded by the organizations like DRDO, AICTE, VTU and many others.
Electrical & Electronics Engineering: The branch of Electrical & Electronics Engineering was first set up in the year 1962 along with the opening of the college. It started off with offering a bachelor's program in this department with duration of four years. Gradually, it grew over a period of time and started offering a master's program in Computer Applications since the year 2004. The department also gained the status of Research Centre in 2003 and has come out with 6 doctorates in the past 10 years of its background. The department also keeps engaging its students in R & D activities. It was accredited by the NBA for a duration of 5 years effective from July2015. It also works in the area of Power System & Renewable Energy Sources, High Voltage Engineering, Power Electronics, HVDC transmission and many other fields as well.
Electronics & Communication Engineering: In the year 1975, the branch for Electronics & Communication Engineering was brought into effect and it grew very fast in terms of recognition and infrastructure over the years. It has well equipped laboratories of electronics and got its recognition as Research Center with the approval from VTU. The branch currently offers a degree in Bachelor of Engineering with an opening for 120 candidates. It also offers master's programs in Electronics & Communication and in VLSI Design & Embedded System with an opening of 30 and 18 respectively.
Computer Science & Engineering: The establishment of Computer Science & Engineering was brought into picture in the year 1984. It is considered to be one of the earliest institutes to introduce CSE as a curriculum in Karnataka. The organizations like AICTE and Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS) have granted project funds to the department for research purposes. The program for postgraduates was first initiated in the year 1999. The faculties in this branch are well trained and expert in their area of activity.
Chemical Engineering: It is the first self-financing engineering college in Bangalore to offer a program in Chemical Engineering from the year 1978 onwards. This branch is also decorated three times consecutively by the National Board for Accreditation. It also has ISO 9001:2000 with A grade by NAAC for providing quality education. Among the 33 batches, over 1900 students have graduated and secured ranks in university. Besides it offers an excellent infrastructure for internships and innovative projects.
Industrial Engineering & Management: Earlier this department used to run the name of Industrial & Production Engineering and was set up in 1979 as a venture of Mechanical Engineering. Later this department got structured and started working as an independent entity in 1984 and was renamed later in 1992 to Industrial Engineering & Management. The branch is run by very skilled and expert staff members who are highly motivated. This department majorly focuses on quality control, work system design, operations planning and control, supply chain management and many more.
Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering: The year of establishment for the department of Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering took place in 1992. The VTU has recently renamed this branch from its earlier name 'Department of Instrumentation Technology'. The goal of the department is to make the students industry-ready by aligning them with the recent market practices in the area of sensor technology, industrial automation, embedded system and several others.
Information Science & Engineering: This branch was also established in the year 1992 in the name of Information Science & Engineering. It works with a strategy of producing students into high-skilled professionals to meet the demands of emerging sectors in the field of information science & engineering. The branch began with the undergraduate curriculum with an annual opening for 30 candidates. In the subsequent years, it grew taller and expanded its department for intake of almost 120 candidates. This branch has its deployment in the field of R & D as well.
Telecommunication Engineering: The department of Telecommunication Engineering was started in the year 1996 to meet the demand of professionals in the networking technologies of India with a good expertise. The branch is well equipped with state of the art laboratories and committed faculty members with the best of academic and industry recognition. Several reputed organizations like CDAC, CDOT, DRDO, ISRO, and ERNET enable this branch to conduct their own R & D projects. It potentially helps the undergraduate students to be ready to work.
Medical Electronics: The Medical Electronics branch got its recognition in 1996 in order to equip the students with the skill to traverse the emerging healthcare technologies. It is also working in the area of Bio-signal processing to make research effective and keeping itself updated. The research and publishing team is focusing on the Neural Network Based Sensor, fetal monitoring systems and many others.
Biotechnology: This branch emerged late in the year 2002 offering a four year degree program for undergraduates in biotechnology with an intake of 60 students along with the master's program with an intake of 18 students offering a two year postgraduate program. The branch is equipped with 15 faculty members out of them 10 are PhD holders.
