MH CET Law 2024

The Mumbai University Common Law Entrance Test (MU CLET) is a state-level examination conducted by the University of Mumbai for admission to its undergraduate law programs. Now, the MHCET-Law test is used in its place. The test is open to candidates who have completed their 10+2 education or equivalent from a recognized board with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ST candidates) and are seeking to pursue a 3-year LLB & 5-year LLB courses.

The test consists of multiple-choice questions which are conducted in English, and the duration is two hours. The test is usually held in multiple locations across India, and the results are usually announced within a few weeks after the test. The scores of the test are used by the University of Mumbai and other law colleges affiliated with it for admission to their undergraduate law programs. Generally, the exam is held from April to May and the notification is released in March or April. The application process for the exam is conducted on the official website of the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra and is entirely online.

Overall, MU CLET or MHCET- Law is a competitive test, and the competition is intense due to a large number of applicants for a limited number of seats. The test assesses the candidate's ability to understand and apply legal principles and think critically and logically. Based on the merit list prepared by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra, the selection of candidates is made. The merit list is prepared based on the scores obtained by the candidates in the MHCET-Law exam.

How to Apply?

  • Before applying, candidates should check that they meet the eligibility criteria for the test.
  • Candidates can register online for the test from the official website of the University of Mumbai.
  • They will need to create an account and provide personal and educational details.
  • They will also have to pay an application fee, which has to be done online using a credit card, debit card, or net banking.
  • Candidates will need to upload scanned copies of documents such as their 10+2-mark sheet, passport-size photograph, and signature.
  • Candidates can select a test centre of their choice from the list of centres provided on the website.
  • After the completion of the application process, candidates will receive a confirmation email or SMS.
  • The candidate has to download the admit card and take the printout to the examination hall.

MH CET Syllabus

MUCLET or the new MHCET-Law includes subjects related to law, reasoning, general knowledge, and mathematics. The syllabus for the 3-year MHCET-Law test includes legal aptitude and reasoning, general knowledge with current affairs, logical and analytical reasoning, English language, and mathematics. Meanwhile, the syllabus for the 5-year MHCET-Law test also has the same topics except that the mathematics section covers only up to the Class 10 level. The legal aptitude and legal reasoning section in both exams assess a candidate's knowledge of legal principles and their ability to logically apply them to a given set of facts. National and international news, history, geography, general science, and social sciences are all covered in the general knowledge with current affairs section. The logical and analytical thinking section assesses a candidate's aptitude to analyse information logically. The final selection, i,e. the English language and mathematics sections evaluate a candidate's knowledge of these subjects.

MH CET Exam Preparation

Here are some tips for preparing for the Mumbai University Common Law Entrance Test (MU CLET):

  • The candidates can familiarize themselves with the syllabus and exam pattern, including the types of questions that will be asked and the number of questions.

MH CET Exam Pattern

Through the MHCET-Law test exam pattern candidate's aptitude and knowledge of legal principles, reasoning, general knowledge, and mathematics will be evaluated. Questions will consist of multiple-choice tests which will be conducted in an online format. Candidates can ace the MHCET-Law exam with proper preparation and practice and gain admission to prestigious law programmes in Maharashtra. For the 3-year law programme and the 5-year law programme, the test is divided into four and five sections, respectively. There are no deductions for incorrect answers, and each correct answer receives one mark.

MH CET Ranking

After the announcement of the result, the exam conducting body releases the cut-off marks for each category of students. The cut-off marks change every year depending on a number of variables, like the number of students who took the exam, its level of difficulty, and the availability of seats. Students are ranked according to their scores after the results and cut-off marks are released. For each category of students, a separate rank list is prepared. The rank list is important since it determines a student's eligibility for admission to different law programmes in Maharashtra.

MH CET Counseling

The results for the MH CET Law are usually declared a few weeks after the exam is conducted. The MH CET Law results are usually made available on the official website of Mumbai University and can be accessed using the candidate's roll number or name.

The results typically include the following details:

  • Total marks scored by the candidate
  • Section-wise marks (i.e. marks obtained in each section of the exam)
  • All India rank (AIR) of the candidate
  • Cut-off marks for various categories

The State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra conducts the MHCET-Law test at the state level for admission to the 3-year LLB and 5-year integrated LLB programmes offered by various law universities in the state of Maharashtra.
For the 3-year LLB course, candidates should complete their graduation from a recognized university with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates) and for the 5-year integrated LLB course, they should complete their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates).
The application fee for the general category is Rs. 1100/-, for Gen-EWS*/ OBC-NCL is Rs. 550/-, and for SC/ST/ PwD and Third gender is Rs. 275/-.
The result is generally announced within one month after the exam.
Candidates are ineligible for admission to law programmes in Maharashtra if they fail to meet the MHCET-Law exam cutoff score. They can either try again the following year or look into alternative possibilities.
