The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) was established as the 14th National Law University in the country by the National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam Act, 2009 (Act No. XXV of 2009) and is located in Guwahati, the state capital.
The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam campus is located in Agiyathuri, Amingaon, on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River. It is set among lush greenery and has a sprawling campus area of 50 acres with the most modern facilities. The NLUJAA offers BA LLB (Hons) as a five-year integrated course and LLM as a one-year degree program. The University also offers Ph.D. in law. Admissions to all courses are based on the CLAT entrance scores.
The North-Eastern region of India has long been one of the country's underdeveloped and marginalized regions. Although a High Court in Guwahati serves the eight 'Seven Sister' states – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura – the state of legal education in the region has not fully tapped into the potential for cultivating excellence in the legal profession.
Hence, to meet the people's aspirations, the Government of Assam took steps to establish a Law University in the region, resulting in the creation of The National Law University and Judicial Academy (NLUJAA), Assam. The university was established through the enactment of the National Law School and Judicial Academy, Assam Act, 2009.
The NLUJAA is one of the 20 (twenty) National Law Universities that have been established across the country. It provides the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Five-Year Integrated Course, the LL.M. One-Year Course, and the Ph.D. Program. The Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court serves as the University's Chancellor.

The NLUJA Placement cell conducts internships and placements for its students. Students at NLUJA Assam must complete four-week internships at various law firms, courts, NGOs, statutory commissions, and other organizations at the end of each semester during the summer and winter breaks to gain experience in the application of law in various contexts.
NLUJA has developed a comprehensive Internship Training program catering to various academic levels. First-year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) students engage with NGOs, second-year students receive training from district-level lawyers and judges, and third-year students are mandated to pursue training at High Courts and the Hon’ble Supreme Court.
