Sido Kanhu Murmu University (S.K.M.U) was established on January 10, 1992, by an act of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. The creation of Jharkhand in 2000, the University came under the jurisdiction of the Jharkhand government. On May 31, 2007, it received recognition from the University Grants Commission under section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The University's authority encompasses six districts of Santhal Pargana, where it oversees 13 constituent colleges and 9 permanently affiliated colleges. The university aims to expand as a diverse and socially responsible center for learning and research, offering equal opportunities for all students.
Its academic programs include courses in the humanities, commerce, science and technology, management, engineering, and law, as well as self-financing courses like BCA, MCA, and library science.
