Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (Sri Ramachandra University) was established in the year 1985. It is as a private not-for-profit self-financing institution and the institute is dedicated to serve the society. As a centre of excellence with emphasis on medical education, research and health care. In view of its academic excellence, the Government of India granted the status of Deemed University to Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in September 1994 under the provisions of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

The Medical College was one of first few colleges in India to obtain permission to admit 250 students from the academic year 2011. The Institution is included in the World Health Directory and is recognised by the General Medical Council, Ireland Medical Council, UK, Ireland Medical Council and Thailand Medical Council.   • National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF 2020) ranked 7 out of 3954 institutions of Higher education in India, 15th rank in pharmacy category and 6th in dental category. The award ceremony was held in Vigyan Bhavan on 3rd April 2018.
  • The College of Pharmacy functioning under the college, a deemed university in Chennai, has been ranked 21st on the National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings-2018, approved by the ministry of human resources development, government of India.
  • The institution has WHO Collaboration Centre for Research and Training in Occupational Health.
  • The college is ranked 3rd among the category of Technical Institutions by MHRD SWACHHTA RANKING 2017 of Higher Educational Institutions, for maintaining a clean, hygienic and green campus.
  • The college has NABL accreditation to Sri Ramachandra Laboratory Service.
  • The India Today Survey of colleges in India 2017 has placed The Medical College and Research Institute at the 6th place among the top ten medical colleges in India and the University has been placed at the third place among best medical universities in India, in the India Today survey of Universities in India - 2017.

Yes, in 1994, it was declared as Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (Deemed University) by the Government of India under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.
Yes, SRMCRI is accredited with an “A” grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
