Up until XAT 2018, there was an essay writing element on the exam syllabus; after that, it was removed. However, XLRI Jamshedpur reintroduced the essay writing section of the exam in XAT 2022. In the XAT syllabus, the essay writing section is the only descriptive question. Candidates can expect an increase of 10 minutes in the total exam time with the addition of this section. In XAT 2022, candidates had to select from two given topics, whereas, in XAT 2023, they had the choice of one essay topic from three options.
