CUET Exam Pattern

Candidates aspiring to take up the CUET 2025 entrance exam should have a clear understanding of the question paper structure, format, and marking system hence to know about all these the candidates have to go through the exam pattern thoroughly which will be available on the official website of CUET. The NTA (National Test Agency) determines the exam pattern for CUET 2025. The exam pattern highlights the mode of examination, duration of the exam, number of sections the paper contains, mark allotment, and the medium of language. The exam pattern is one medium through which the candidates can get familiarized with the question paper format.

Section Subjects/Tests Questions to be Attempted
Section 1A - Languages There are 13 different languages. Any of these languages may be chosen. 40 questions are to be attempted out of 50 in each language.
Section 1B - Languages There are 20 Languages. Any of these languages may be chosen.
Section 2 -Domain 27 domain-specific subjects are being offered under this section. A candidate may choose any subject as desired by the applicable University/ Universities. 35/40 Questions to be attempted out of 45/50.
Section 3 -General Test For any such undergraduate programme/programmes being offered by Universities where a General Test is being used for admission. 50 Questions to be attempted out of 60

Note: One mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. Unanswered/Marked for Review will be given no mark (0).

CUET Exam Pattern Highlights

The total marks of the CUET exam are 250 marks. The marking scheme as per NTA is given below.

  • Correct answer or the most appropriate answer: Five marks (+5)
  • Any incorrect option marked will be given a minus one mark (-1)
  • Unanswered/Marked for Review will be given no mark (0).
  • If more than one option is found to be correct, then five marks (+5) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.
  • If all options are found to be correct, then five marks (+5) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.
  • If none of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped, then all candidates who have attempted the dropped question will be given five marks (+5).

Choice of Cities:

Candidates are required to choose four cities while submitting their applications. The candidates' order of choice on their online application forms will be taken into consideration when determining the city of the examination. However, for administrative or logistical reasons, a different city can be selected.

The State of Permanent Address or State of Present Address will be the only states from which to choose the Center Cities.

If there are not sufficient applicants from a particular city, the NTA reserves the authority to merge one, two, or more cities.

Regarding the allocation of the City/Centre, the NTA's decision shall be definitive. There will be no further correspondence or requests in this area.

Paper Analysis:

The admission exam is administered online in a computer-based test (CBT) style, according to the UGC. Multiple-choice questions will be included in the question format.

In addition, there is a negative marking system that deducts 1 mark for each incorrect answer.

The CUET 2025 exam is conducted online (computer-based examination) at their preferred test centers.
The marking system for CUET 2025 is each correct answer carries 1 mark and a negative marking of -1 for each wrong answer and 0 marking for unanswered questions.
The candidates will be asked to select four cities based on the order that they have preferred the city of examination will be determined.
