Gangadhar Meher College began on a small base, with only 192 students enrolled. With the passing of time, it expanded and grew in stature. Degree programs in Arts and Commerce were started in 1944, and B.Sc. programs were added in 1957. When post-graduate departments were started at the College in 1964, it marked an important milestone. Another milestone period came in 1983 when the institution began offering M.Phil. programs in a variety of domains. Pre-Doctoral coursework in four subjects was also introduced in 2012 to fulfill the demand for higher education and research.

Currently, the university serves the needs of about 5500 students as well as services to the community as a whole. By offering high-quality education, it has already created a reputation for itself in the education sector in just three years.
