According to the ranking of Agricultural Universities and Research Institutes conducted by the Agricultural Education Division, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi for the year 2016–17, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana (GADVASU) has been ranked first among the 14 State Veterinary Universities of India. Also, it ranked ninth among all 57 Agricultural Universities, Veterinary Universities, and Research Institutes in India. With a greater goal of raising the bar for higher agricultural education in line with the global environment, the ICAR started ranking colleges and research institutions under its control. The ranking was determined by several factors, such as student and faculty profiles, student placements, publications and citations in scientific journals, patents, innovations developed and distributed to farmers, resource generation, and connections.
In addition, GADVASU was ranked 50th among all educational universities in the nation and 81st out of 3390 higher education institutions in India in 2017's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) study, which was carried out by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development in New Delhi. This was done in recognition of GADVASU's excellent performance in teaching, research, and extension programs.
The Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University's (GADVASU) College of Fisheries and College of Dairy Science and Technology have received accreditation from the National Agricultural Education Accreditation Board of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), which met in March 2016. This University's College of Veterinary Science received accreditation in 2013.
