Lady Hardinge Medical College established in 1916 is a pioneer in the field of medical education & has the unique distinction of being the only medical college in India for training women undergraduate students. LHMC was founded by Lady Hardinge of Penhurst the wife of then Viceroy of India to provide an opportunity for womento study medicine as prevailing cultures at that time did not allow women to study in co- educational institutions.
Lady Hardinge Medical College is spread across a campus of 60 acres, was formally opened by Lord Hardinge in February 1916 with Dr Kate Platt M.D as its first Principal & with 14-16 students. Over the years the Lady Hardinge medical College admissions has increased the capacity for the MBBS course to accommodating over 200 seats. The scholarship can be availed only if the income of parents/ guardian is less than INR 5 LPA. The students under MBBS scholarships are rewarded INR INR 1,500 every month for the duration of 4.5 years on the basis of merit cum means. The candidates will have to fill one form at the time of admission in order to process the scholarship. A copy of Ration card will be required with the application form. The scholarship can be ceased in case of failure in exams, which is looked after by a committee at the college.
