Mizoram University (MZU) is a public higher education institution in Aizawl that was established in 2001 by an Act of Parliament. It is recognized by the United Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is one of the country's pioneering universities. MZU has 33 departments and offers a variety of courses such as UG, PG, M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs through 8 different schools of study. Mizoram University is affiliated with 35 colleges in addition to a constituent college.
Since 2013, the University has been one of the first in the country to successfully implement the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The University has awarded 277 Ph.D. degrees in various disciplines over the last five years. Mizoram University has made significant progress in terms of infrastructure, academic programs, manpower, and support services over the last 17 years.
Mizoram University was founded in 2001 and has been accredited by NAAC with an 'A' grade. It spread over an area of 978 acres on the outskirts of Aizawl. For the years 2016 to 2019, the university was also consistently ranked among the top 100 universities in India. Mizoram University is ranked 67th in the university category for NIRF 2020.
