Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut, popularly known as SVPUAT, Meerut was established on October 2, 2000, under the Uttar Pradesh Agriculture University Act. The Honourable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh inaugurated it on March 28, 2002. The University is recognized and funded by the state of Uttar Pradesh and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
As a full-fledged nonprofit organization, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology has the status of being the "First Agriculture University of the Third Millennium and the Twenty-First Century." It is committed to a one-of-a-kind goal of combining education research and extension in order to benefit rural communities.
The Uttar Pradesh government has given responsibility for the overall development of agriculture and rural communities to its four divisions, which include 15 districts: Meerut, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Rampur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Moradabad, Baghpat, Bijnor, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Baduan, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, and Shahjahanpur. The state of Uttar Pradesh has nine agro-climatic zones, three of which are under the jurisdiction of this university.
