In the year 1965-66, Bangalore University offered Honours courses as a first step in the reorganization of course instructions, which began shortly after the university's founding. Many talented students have enrolled in three-year Honours programs in Botany, Chemistry, Economics, English, Geology, Kannada, Mathematics, and Zoology, which are exclusively available at university postgraduate departments. Honors-passed students were granted priority admission to Post Graduate Courses, while B.A./B.Sc. graduates who narrowly missed admission to Post Graduate Courses were offered the option to enroll in the final year Honours course and then apply for Post Graduate Courses. Bangalore University has increased in size and strength since 1964, with a significant number of affiliated colleges and P.G. Centers offering a wide range of program options.
Arts, Science, Commerce & Management, Education, Law, and Engineering are the six faculties that make up the University's academic organization. It oversees 48 postgraduate departments, one postgraduate center at Kolar (established in 1994-95), four university colleges, 684 associated colleges, and a number of additional centers and directorates of higher education and research. The University currently offers 50 postgraduate courses as well as employment-oriented diploma and certificate programs. The University has begun offering Five-Year Integrated Biological Sciences Courses.
