CAT Entrance Exam Common Admission Test is a computer-based management aptitude exam conducted once a year by one of the renowned premier national institutes “Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs)” to enter the post-graduation level. The exam duration is 120 minutes (2 hours), divided into three sections of 40 minutes each.

The Indian Institutes of Management launched the exam to select the students for their business administration programs (MBA or PGDM). Every year, more than 2 lakh candidates register for the CAT Exam. This year, over 3 lakh candidates registered, out of which 2.88 lakh candidates attended the exam and presented their highest grades to secure admission to their desired MBA colleges in India.

CAT Exam 2025

CAT Ranking

CAT Exam 2025 is essential for access to different management courses offered by the IIMs, IITs, FMS, and other CAT affiliated colleges. Before selecting an institute, one must carefully consider key factors such as placement opportunities, infrastructure, faculty quality, and the fee structure.

The CAT exam 2025, scheduled to be conducted in November 2025, will assess candidates across three sections: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Ability (QA), with a total of approximately 68 questions. Generally, top-tier institutes such as the IIMs consider candidates with a percentile of 95 and above for admission.

CAT Exam Counseling

Admission to IIMs and other B-schools through the CAT score is based on the Written Ability Test or Group Discussion and Personal Interview (WAT/GD-PI). Each IIM sets its own selection criteria and minimum CAT cutoff marks. Similarly, non-IIM institutions that accept CAT scores for admission release their own admission schedules and selection processes.

There is no centralized counselling for CAT Exam 2025. Each participating institution conducts a separate counselling process based on the CAT score. IIMs will announce the students who have been shortlisted and will move on to the next step of the CAT admissions process. The name of the shortlisted candidates will be made public on each IIM's official website.
