Generally, the method of evaluating and comparing higher education institutions based on numerous criteria and then assigning them a ranking position is referred to as ranking descriptions. These rankings are often provided by organizations, publications, or websites to help students, parents, and educators, to make well-informed choices about where to study or invest in education.

When it comes to the Central University of Jammu Ranking- the university was established on August 8, 2011, with the appointment of the first Vice-Chancellor. It was founded by the Central Universities Act, of 2009. The university began (2011-12) with three postgraduate courses in English, Economics, and Applied Mathematics at Temporary Academic Block (TAB-I). In the following academic session (2012-13), five PG Courses were added to the Temporary Academic Block (TAB-II): Computer Science, Educational Studies, Human Resource Management, Environmental Sciences, and Travel and Tourism Management.

During the 2014-2015 academic year, four new postgraduate courses were introduced: Public Policy & Public Administration, National Security Studies, Social Work, and Mass Communication and New Media. In addition, the University provides an Integrated M.Phil. Ph.D. program in eight fields. Today, the Central University of Jammu reflects a diversity-focused and progressive higher education institution.
