The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda was established in 2009 by the Parliament through Act No. 25 of 2009, along with other new Central Universities. The University has completed a successful 15-year journey has received an 'A+' grade from NAAC and is ranked #9 out of 50 in India 2024 by IIRF.
The university aims to offer a variety of educational and research facilities that cover multiple disciplines, promoting innovative teaching, learning, and research. It strives to integrate new ideas, technologies, and world-views, and to inspire a workforce that is receptive to regional, national, and global needs. Additionally, it aims to meet the needs of academics, industry, and business.
In March 2009, the university started with a small three-room office provided by the state government for students. They quickly expanded by renting a 37-acre abandoned co-operative spinning mill on Mansa Road in Bathinda. Today, the university has a 500-acre campus in Ghudda village. The campus is environmentally friendly and energy-efficient, with a Master Plan that has a provisional five-star rating from the GRIHA Council and TERI.
The Central University of Punjab offers postgraduate and doctoral programs in Science, Technology, Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Law. It has 31 departments and 11 schools. The university admitted its first batch of ten students in four programs in August 2009, and now has 1595 master's, 366 doctorate, and 21 international students. Its courses encourage research, skill development, and entrepreneurship.
Central University of Punjab Admission to the majority of its PG courses is based on the CUCET entrance exam. However, for admission to some of the courses, the university accepts other national-level entrance exams.
The University encourages students to participate in sports and cultural events, as well as celebrate national and international holidays. They are also able to actively engage in various programs such as indigenous sports, the Food Carnival, and Best Out of Waste activities, as well as government flagship programs in India. The campus is committed to being plastic-free, and the University promotes environmental activities in the communities it serves to raise awareness.
