The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda was established in 2009 by the Parliament through Act No. 25 of 2009, along with other new Central Universities. In March 2009, the university started with a small three-room office provided by the state government for students. They quickly expanded by renting a 37-acre abandoned co-operative spinning mill on Mansa Road in Bathinda. Today, the university has a 500-acre campus in Ghudda village. The campus is environmentally friendly and energy-efficient, with a Master Plan that has a provisional five-star rating from the GRIHA Council and TERI.

The university's campus has all of the facilities and infrastructure that students require. A well-stocked library, boys and girls hostels, a gym, a canteen, an auditorium, and other facilities are offered on the Central University of Punjab campus. The university library is well-stocked with books, magazines, and journals. Both the boys' and girls' hostels are on the university's campus.

The University encourages students to participate in sports and cultural events, as well as celebrate national and international holidays. They are also able to actively engage in various programs such as indigenous sports, the Food Carnival, and Best Out of Waste activities, as well as government flagship programs in India. The university's air-conditioned auditorium is equipped with modern amenities such as multimedia projectors and a sound system. The auditorium can accommodate 250 people. It serves as a venue for a variety of university events.

The university provides hostel facilities to its students. The boy's hostel has an air-conditioned reading room. The reading room is well-stocked with books, as well as computer and printing facilities. The Central University of Punjab hostel also has a mess/canteen for the students. Accommodations for female students are only available on campus. The rooms in the girl's hostel are spacious and well-ventilated and provided with all required facilities. The hostel is under 24-hour CCTV and security surveillance. The hostel premises are kept clean and safe by providing a round-the-clock housekeeping service.

For students and faculty members, there is a well-equipped health center on campus. The health center is staffed around the clock by a medical officer and support staff. The Central University of Punjab Medical Center offers medication for free and first aid care.
