Delhi College of Engineering, originally known as Delhi Polytechnic, was established in 1941 to meet the demand for highly skilled technical personnel with practical experience and a robust academic foundation in Indian enterprises. Now known as Delhi Technological University (DTU), it offers graduate, undergraduate, and PhD programs.
The university was originally a multidisciplinary, multilevel institution with programs in engineering, technology, architecture, art and sculpture, pharmacy, and business. For employment purposes, the national diploma awarded by the institution was considered equivalent to a degree. In 1952, the college began offering formal degree-level programs after becoming affiliated with the University of Delhi. The architecture department later evolved into the School of Planning and Architecture, now a nationally significant institution and deemed a university. To accommodate the opening of IIT Delhi at its new site in Hauz Khas, the departments of Chemical Technology and Textile Technology were relocated, and the Department of Arts and Sculpture became the College of Arts.
DTU Course Admissions offers a variety of full-time, unique courses. At the undergraduate level, DTU provides B.Tech, BBA, B.A. (Hons), and B.Des, with programs lasting three to four years. For postgraduate students, DTU Delhi offers M.Tech, M.Des, and M.Sc., with courses spanning two years. The university offers six-year Ph.D. programs in 19 different disciplines.
