GMAT Syllabus

To prepare for the GMAT exam, candidates should first check the GMAT syllabus for 2024. The GMAT syllabus for 2024 is divided into four sections: Verbal, Quantitative, Integrated Reasoning, and Analytical writing assessment. The GMAT exam has a total score of 800 points. The total number of questions asked and the time limit allotted for each section will differ.

GMAT exam syllabus 2024 - Verbal Reasoning

The GMAT exam syllabus 2024 will include 36 verbal reasoning questions to be completed in 65 minutes. There will be three types of questions: reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and sentence correction.

  • Reading Comprehension : The section will evaluate the candidate's reading comprehension, inference-making skills, and comprehension of the idea or connection between the points in the passage. The passages may be taken from the social sciences, humanities, physical and biological sciences, or industries related to business. The main idea, a supporting idea, an inference, an application, and a logical structure will all be used as the basis for the questions.
  • Critical Reasoning : This section will include multiple-choice questions based on short reading passages of less than 100 words. The questions evaluate the candidate's ability to make arguments, analyze arguments, frame a plan of action, and reach a conclusion.
  • Sentence Correction : This section evaluates the two main aspects of language proficiency. The first is the correct expression, and the second is the effective expression. Candidates must select the correct option by understanding grammar rules, sentence structure, and effective expression.

GMAT Syllabus 2024 - Quantitative Aptitude

The Quantitative Aptitude section of the GMAT exam syllabus 2024 will be divided into two parts: Data Sufficiency and Problem Solving. The section will consist of 31 multiple-choice questions.

  • Data Sufficiency : A problem with a question and two statements will be presented. To answer the questions, candidates must use the data in the statement as well as their understanding of everyday math concepts. They must determine which data is relevant to solve the problem.
  • Problem-Solving : Problem-solving questions will evaluate the candidate's ability to solve numerical problems using logic and analytical reasoning. The questions will be based on fundamental mathematical concepts, with five possible answers.

GMAT exam syllabus 2024- Integrated Reasoning

This section is the most recent addition to the GMAT 2024 syllabus. It evaluates the ability of the candidate to analyze and evaluate data presented in the form of tables, graphs, passages, or a combination of the three. The section will include 12 questions covering the following topics.

  • Table Analysis- Questions are straightforward and are based on an analysis of data presented in a table format, similar to a spreadsheet. The candidate must answer questions by finding the relevant information in the data.
  • Two-part Analysis- The questions are either numerical, verbal, or a combination of the two. The candidate must find the complex relationship between the given objects. Trade-offs, simultaneous equations, and other similar types of questions are used.
  • Multi-Source Reasoning- Questions will be based on information presented in the form of tables, graphics, text passages, or a combination of the three. Candidates must analyze the data and respond to questions based on drawing inferences or determining the relevance of the data.
  • Graphic Interpretation- Candidates must interpret data presented in graphical formats such as a bar chart, pie chart, x/y graph, statistical curve distribution, plot, and so on. They must conclude and explain correlations.

GMAT syllabus 2024 - Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA)

The Analytical Writing Assessment section of the GMAT syllabus 2024 will consist of one 30-minute writing task in which a candidate must provide an analysis of an argument using proper reasoning and a critical approach. The argument's topic can be any general subject. This section is designed to evaluate the candidate's ability to think critically and express ideas in the form of an essay. The type of essay asked can vary.

  • Issue Essay- The candidate must write a 600-word essay on a given topic. The opinions can be in favor of or against the statement. The essay should reflect unique content in terms of opinions, arguments, and writing style.
  • Argumentative Essay- The candidate will be asked to provide reasoning or logic behind the given argument, along with evidence and examples. The answer should not include any unfounded assumptions or prior biases. Candidates are expected to write their answers using proper grammar rules, diction, syntax, and structure.
