Punjabi University, Patiala is a collegiate state public university that was established in 1962. It was initially intended to be a unitary multi-faculty teaching and research institution, with a focus on the advancement and enrichment of the Punjabi language and culture while also being attentive to the social and educational needs of the region. After Hebrew University in Israel, this is the second university in the world to have its name inspired by a language. Since then, it has become a significant institution for providing top-notch education and conducting cutting-edge research in the fields of business studies, law, social sciences, languages, education, information sciences, and arts and culture.
The university currently has 275 affiliated colleges, 5 neighborhood campuses, 14 constituent colleges, and 65 teaching and research departments in addition to 4 regional centers. Punjabi has been included as a compulsory subject at the undergraduate level for all programs. The option to take exams in Punjabi is available to students in various PG courses. A variety of new courses in the fields of engineering, management, computer science, social sciences, advanced media studies, hospitality and hotel management, and certificate courses in Guru Granth Sahib studies have been added by the university in response to the current demand. Students take part in a wide range of sports, cultural, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities.

Finishing School serves as a liaison between the students and prospective employers. The placement session starts in August and ends in June of the same year. The placement cell invites companies with relevant information for campus recruitment. Job Notification Form (JNF) is uploaded along with other information provided by the organizations for the students. Interested and eligible students register with the placement cell. SPOC (Single Point of Contact) which is allotted to the organization conducts pre-placement talks, personal interviews, etc. The company makes the final list and put it on the mail-id.
