The 13.62-acre campus houses departments, administrative buildings, a canteen, a pond, a guest house, a playground, a garden with rare medicinal plants, and a mulberry garden. The State Government donated additional land to this university, comprising 11.19 acres, in Raiganj, which is only three kilometers away. In a very short time, the University's second Campus will operate.
The University has designated several academic centers as "Centres of Excellence." These include the Center for Women's Studies, the Environment Conservation Center, the Business Incubation and Innovation Center, and the Centre for Differently Abled Students. Many Ph.D. and M.Phil. scholars receive government scholarships from the West Bengali government and the UGC. The University offers fellowships including the "INSPIRE fellowship," "ICSSR fellowship," and others to eligible faculty members.
Raiganj University is a public state university that was established in 1984. It is the oldest higher educational institution in the North Dinajpur district which was elevated to the status of a public state university on 3 February 2015 by an Act of the West Bengal legislature. RU provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral-level courses in liberal arts on its Campus. Presently the university has 22 UG departments, 23 PG departments, and 17 Ph.D. and MPhil departments. The university intends to be a Centre of Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Research.

The government's admissions policy is followed by the university. To enroll in UG courses candidates have to pass 10+2. To enroll in the doctoral and postgraduate courses, candidates must appear in an entrance examination conducted by the university or by a national agency like CSIR, UGC, etc.
Admission to MBA requires a valid MAT/CAT/JEMAT/XAT. Graduates who have scored 40% in 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 can enroll through a written admission test followed by a personal interview conducted by the university.
