SET Syllabus

The Symbiosis Entrance Test syllabus assesses the candidate's aptitude and ability in the following subject areas:

General English

The general English section of the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is designed to test the candidate's proficiency in the English language. The syllabus for this section includes the following topics:

  • Poetry Comprehension and Analysis involve comprehending the meaning of poems, recognizing literary devices (such as personification and transferred epithets), translating figurative language, and analyzing rhyme schemes.
  • Grammar and Sentence Structure: This involves recognizing the proper use of prepositions, tenses, conjunctions, etc., in fill-in-the-blank format and recognizing sentence structure or word choice errors.
  • Vocabulary: This comprises questions asking you to pick the right word to complete sentences, determine the meanings of proverbs and idioms, identify compound words and countable and uncountable nouns, and detect correct spelling.

General Awareness

The General Awareness section of the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is designed to assess the candidate's knowledge of current affairs and general knowledge. The syllabus for this section includes:

  • History: Important events, dates, and figures from world and Indian history.
  • Geography: Knowledge of countries, capitals, rivers, mountains, and other physical features.
  • Politics: Details about the structure of the Indian government, international relations, and key political figures
  • Economics: Fundamental economic concepts, historical events in economic development, and national economic policies.
  • Science & Technology: Basic scientific knowledge, discoveries, and inventions.

Analytical and Logical Reasoning

The Analytical and Logical Reasoning section of the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is designed to test the candidate's ability to analyze and solve problems, as well as to think critically and logically. The syllabus includes:

  • Verbal Reasoning: Syllogisms, Coding-Decoding, Series, Statement-Conclusion, and Statement-Assumption.
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning: Patterns, Mirror Images, Water Images, and Figure Completion.
  • Analytical Reasoning: Blood Relations, Puzzles, Seating Arrangements (Linear and Circular), and Directions.
  • Critical Reasoning: Cause & Effect, Course of Action, and Strong vs. Weak Arguments.
  • Data Sufficiency and logical puzzles.

Quantitative Aptitude:

The Quantitative Aptitude section of the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is designed to assess the candidate's mathematical ability. The topics in this syllabus include:

  • Arithmetic: Percentages, Profit & Loss, Ratio & Proportion, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Simple & Compound Interest, Averages, and Mixtures & Alligations.
  • Algebra: Linear equations, Quadratic equations, and Simplifications.
  • Geometry and Mensuration : Area, Volume, Perimeter, Angles, Triangles, Circles, and Coordinate Geometry basics.
  • Data Interpretation (DI): Graphs (Bar, Line, Pie), Tables, and Caselets.
  • Number System: Divisibility, HCF & LCM, Factors, and Remainders.
  • Modern Math: Probability, Permutations, and Combinations.

The syllabus consists of four sections - General English, Quantitative, General Awareness, and Analytical & Logical Reasoning.
Maths, algebra, geometry, and data interpretation are the main topics covered in the SET exam's quantitative section. Candidates should concentrate on understanding the fundamental theories and calculations around these topics
Coding-decoding, riddles, logical reasoning, and data sufficiency are among the subjects covered in the Analytical & Logical Reasoning section
