The Department of Biotechnology in BMS College of Engineering was established in 2002. It offers Bachelor of Engineering. Their vision is to become the Centre of Excellence in the field of Biotechnology and impart quality education to the graduates that deliver biotechnological solutions for the welfare of mankind. The department also encourages the students to take up industrial training in their area of interest during the inter-semester holidays. To improve both oral and written communicative skills, a language lab is available.
The Department of Civil Engineering in BMS College of Engineering was one of the three branches that was started when BMS College of Engineering was established in 1946. In the year 2008, the UG programme was given the academic autonomous status by VTU which enabled them to have their own curriculum to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes in students. The department boasts of three PG courses namely Construction Technology, Environmental Engineering and Transportation Engineering and Management. In addition, the department is recognized as a Research Centre by VTU and as a QIP Centre by MHRD, which has changed the status of the department from just a UG department to a research-based learning centre.
Department of Computer Science & Engineering in BMS College of Engineering started in 1983. The department also has a PG programme - M Tech (CSE) established in1992. The Research Centre, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, started in 2010 under VTU, Belgaum. The research areas of the centre cover machine learning, cloud computing, big data analytics, wireless networks, social networks analysis etc.
Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering in BMS College of Engineering was established in 1946 and offers Undergraduate Programme in Electrical & Electronics Engineering and a PG Programme in Power Electronics. The department is spread over 7 laboratories, well equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The department is well networked with industry and premier institutions for activities like research, curriculum development, internships, projects and training.
Electronics engineers have played an important role in improving the quality of human life and also contributed to the economic growth of the nation and world at large. The Department of Electronics & Communication in BMS College of Engineering understands the importance of preparing engineering students for the current needs of this competitive world. The department started with a UG programme in 1971. It then added two PG programmes in Electronics, Digital Communication and VLSI Design and Embedded Systems during 1986, 1996 and 2014, respectively. It has been recognized as a research centre by VTU in 2008. Since 2011, it is also recognized as a research centre for PhD programmes under Quality Improvement Programme by AICTE.
The Students are trained in various aspects in the field of Industrial Engineering and Management, through a curriculum which has been designed taking into account the various requirements collected from Alumni, Industry as well as Society. It also runs an M. Tech course in Product Design and Manufacturing (PDM) of the VTU on a part-time basis. This Department in BMS College of Engineering is a research centre under VTU leading to MSc and PhD. The Department Labs houses top of the line computers to aid students in CAD/CAM, ERP, modelling, drafting and simulation. The department has a forum called as Industrial Engineering Club (INDEC).

The Department of Information Science and Engineering in BMS College of Engineering was established in 1987. It has close interaction with companies such as EMC, TCS, SAP and IBM to promote student projects. It also has an outstanding placement record with an average placement percentage of 95% for over the last 3 years. The research activities were promoted in the department with the launch of Research Centre in the year 2011. Current areas of research are broadly classified into Communication Networks, Cloud Computing, Biometrics, IOT, Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval.
The Department of Management Studies in BMS College of Engineering was started in 1992 to promote quality education and research in management. Apart from the regular classes, the department imparts knowledge through Guest Lectures, Extension Lectures, Industrial Visits & Meet the CEO series. The students also get an experience in organizing a Management Event through ‘QUEST’ which is an inter-collegiate event organized by the department. The International Conference organized by the department gives the students an opportunity to do research & publish papers.
Department of Mechanical Engineering in BMS College of Engineering started the Under Graduate programme in 1946. The PG programme was started in 1986 in Machine Design. Another PG programme in the field of Manufacturing Science and Engineering was started in 2014. It is adequately funded by various government bodies and supported by industries. The department has good number of MOUs with various sectors of industry ranging from automotive to manufacturing domains. Various societies like SAE, FPSI, and ASHRAE etc.
BMSCE established the branch of Medical Electronics in 1992 to expand its academic horizon in the fast-growing field of healthcare technologies. The department also hosts M. Tech in Biomedical Signal Processing and Instrumentation from 2013. The department has various collaborations with major research institutes like Stanford University, Oxford University, Maastricht University, Indian Institute of Science, Narayana Nethralaya, Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences and many more.
The Department of Telecommunication Engineering in BMS College of Engineering established in 1986, offers a four-year UG programme in Telecommunication Engineering. The faculty of the department practise innovative methods in the Teaching-Learning-Process (T-L-P) that leads to effective implementation of Outcome-Based-Education (OBE). The curriculum takes the student through effective usage of Modern Engineering Tools like Mat lab, Lab VIEW, Multisim, Xilinx, Mentor Graphics, Code-Composer-Studio, Qualnet and HFSS simulation tools. Research carried out in the department has resulted in a total of 203 publications (47 Peer-Reviewed Journal publications, 126 International Conference publications, 30 National Conference publications).
