Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI) was established by Dr. G. Ramachandran and Dr. T. S. Soundaram Ramachandran, two ardent students and contemporary followers of Mahatma Gandhi. The revolutionary philosophy of Nai Talim served as the cornerstone of the institute. The philosophy means to bridge the cognitive and practical aspects, emphasize learners’ overall development, and place a strong focus on skill development through value-based education.
Every academic year, all of the Institute’s students are placed in nearby villages for a week. The students gain knowledge of rural life during their stay, conduct household surveys, and write reports for development initiatives. They run campaigns for medicine, health care, and literacy. While staying in the village, the students participate in Shramdhan activities each day.
According to the report, during The Gandhigram Rural Institute placements in 2022, 173 UG, 148 PG, and 16 Integrated PG students were placed.
