GATE Exam Pattern

The GATE exam pattern will be accessible to candidates on its official website. The GATE conducting body releases the exam pattern for applicants to obtain an understanding of the question paper and all the details about it. The exam pattern displays the details of the exam such as the mode of examination, total hours of the examination, the type of questions, number of subjects, sections, and then about the marking system along with the negative marking. It is necessary for the candidates to check the syllabus as well before starting their preparation as it helps them to build a strong understanding of the question paper.

Marking Scheme All of the questions will be worth 1 or 2 marks
Negative Scoring For 1-mark MCQs, 1/3 mark is deducted, and for 2-mark MCQs, 2/3 mark is deducted. Negative marking does not apply to Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) or Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. MSQs do not have partial marking.

The type of questions that will be asked in the GATE question paper are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions.
The GATE question paper consists of two sections.
There will be a negative marking of ½ for 1 mark MCQs and ⅔ for 2 marks MCQs and in Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
