The first and only university in the world committed to forensic, behavioral, cybersecurity, digital forensics, and related sciences was founded in 2009 as Gujarat Forensic Sciences University. Later, it acquired the designation of Institution of National Importance and eventually became known as the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU). The Government of India formed it through Act, 2020 (32 of 2020) to address the severe shortage in response to the rising demand for forensic experts in the nation and around the world. It only provides postgraduate-level academic programs at the moment due to the advanced and specialized courses offered by each of the schools.
