The National Institute of Design (NID) Bengaluru was founded in March 2006 as an initiative of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). It is known as the R&D campus of NID. The National Institute Design Act 2014 declared NID as an "Institute of National Importance”. NID, Bangalore is one of the top three NIDs in India and has been ranked amongst the top 25 European and Asian programs in the world by Business Week.

The institute has been a leader in industrial design education after Bauhaus and Ulm in Germany and is renowned for its pursuit of design excellence. NID graduates have built a name for themselves in important areas of business, design industry, and social development.

Later, a new campus was established at Yeshwantpur. The National Institute of Design's Knowledge Management Centre (KMC) has print, digital, and audio-visual materials. It has the most comprehensive collection of books, periodicals, and other non-book resources from around the world. Other facilities at NID include a spacious campus, library, design studios, classrooms, auditorium, cafeteria, etc.

What's New in NID Bangalore?

  • NID Bangalore Application for Admissions 2023-24 for M.Des. is now closed. Admission to MDes programs will be granted on the basis of National Institute of Design, Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT) scores.
  • NID DAT 2023 Prelims exam was conducted on January 8, 2023. Prelim’s results for M.Des was released on February 28 and March 30, 2023, respectively.
  • NID DAT 2023 Mains exam for M.Des was held from March 20 to March 23, 2023.
