NID DAT Application

The steps to apply for NID DAT are listed here:

  • Visit the official website of the National Institute of Design (NID) https://admissions.nid.edu/
  • For registering candidates must provide a valid email address and an active mobile number
  • After registration, login credentials will be sent via an email to the registered email address
  • For the step-2 login
  • Click on the link for the NID DAT application form.
  • Fill in the required personal and educational details in the application form.
  • After filling out the form click on ‘Save and Continue’ to go to the next section ‘Upload Document’
  • If candidates want to continue the form later then click on ‘Save and Exit’
  • Upload the required files, including the candidate's photo and signature..
  • For M. Design, candidates who are applying in only one discipline have to appear in DAT Prelims comprising of the test paper for one discipline only
  • For M. Design, candidates who are applying in only two disciplines will have to appear in DAT Prelims comprising two test papers, one for each discipline.

Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)

  • Only those candidates from General Category and General EWS Category who are born on or after 1st July 2004 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBCNCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), candidates born on or after 1st July 2001 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For PwD Reserved Category, candidates have to be born on or after 1st July 1999
  • Candidates who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2024–25 are eligible
  • They can complete 12th from any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities etc.) from any recognized board

Master of Design (M.Des.)

  • Only those candidates from General Category and General EWS Category who are born on or after 1st July 1993 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBCNCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), candidates born on or after 1st July 1990 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For PwD Reserved Category, candidates have to be born on or after 1st July 1988
  • Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree of a minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university or institute recognised by law in India.

  • OR
    • They should have a full-time Diploma of a minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognised by law in India.

    • OR
    • Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard

For B.des, candidates have to qualify 10+2 in any stream from a recognized board and for M.Des program, candidates must qualify their Bachelor of Design from a recognized university.
International students can apply for the NID DAT. However, they may need to go through additional documentation processes and must meet the eligibility requirements outlined by NID.
After submitting your NID DAT application, you cannot change it.
