NID DAT Syllabus
B. Design
B. Design syllabus is designed to test the candidate's aptitude, creativity and design sensitivity. The syllabus for the NID DAT exam is divided into two parts:
NID DAT-Preliminary
The preliminary exam tests the candidate's design aptitude, general knowledge, and observation skills. The preliminary exam syllabus is:
Visual Perception & Sensitivity
This section tests the candidate's ability to understand visual relationships, forms, and meanings of images, patterns and shapes.
Environmental & Social Awareness
This section tests the candidate's understanding of social, cultural, and environmental issues and their impact on design.
Analytical & Logical Reasoning
This section tests the candidate's ability to analyse, interpret and solve problems through logical and critical thinking.
Communication Skills
This section tests the candidate's ability to express their ideas and thoughts effectively through written, oral and visual communication.
NID DAT-Mains
The mains exam tests the candidate's problem-solving and design skills. The syllabus for the mains exam is as follows:
Sketching and Drawing
This section tests the candidate's ability to represent their ideas and observations through sketching and drawing.
Model Making
This section tests the candidate's ability to create a physical model of their design solution.
Written Communication
This section tests the candidate's ability to express their ideas and thoughts effectively through writing.
Problem-Solving
This section tests the candidate's ability to analyse, interpret and solve design problems through logical and critical thinking.
M. Design Syllabus
The syllabus for the National Institute of Design's Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT) for the Master of Design (M. Des) program may vary depending on the specialization candidates choose. However, generally speaking, the test is designed to evaluate the candidate's aptitude, creativity and understanding of design. The test generally consists of a written test and a Studio test.
The written test typically includes the following sections:
- Design-related perceptual ability test
- Test of observation and design sensitivity
- Test of design aptitude
- Test of creativity
The Studio test typically includes the following sections:
- Problem-solving ability
- Creativity
- Communication skills
- Understanding of design and design process
