It was in the year 1984 that VIT University Vellore was established. The institute was set up with the aim of providing high quality education that was on par with global standards. The University is currently headed by Dr. G. Viswanathan. He was a former Parliamentarian and a Minister in the Government of Tamil Nadu. The college was established in accordance with section three of the UGC or the University Grants Commission Act of 1956. VIT is a self financing institute. The college is highly focused on adopting innovative methods to improve the quality of education provided in its campus. VIT has a highly diverse campus with students coming from all parts of the world.
