IIT JAM Exam

The IIT Joint Admission Test for Masters (IIT JAM) 2025 is a national-level entrance exam for postgraduate programs such as M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree and other post-bachelor’s degree programs at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other participating institutions. The exam is organized by one of the IITs on a rotational basis, and for 2025, it is being conducted by IIT Delhi. The Ministry of Education, Government of India, supervises the overall coordination. IIT JAM exam will be held in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across multiple centres in India.

Candidates can choose from subjects like Biotechnology, Chemistry, Economics, Geology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, and Physics. The exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQ), multiple-select questions (MSQ), and numerical answer type (NAT) questions. Conducted entirely in English, the exam has a duration of three hours. A valid JAM score is necessary for applying to participating institutes during admission. Eligibility includes a bachelor’s degree with the required marks, with no age limit. IIT JAM Application Process

  • Candidates have to visit the official website
  • Once the website page is displayed click on the JOAPS 2025 Candidate Portal.
  • The registration portal will appear on the screen
  • Enter the required information and click submit.
  • After successfully registering the applicant will receive an Enrollment ID to the registered mail id or contact number.
  • Using the obtained Enrollment ID and password the candidates can login into the application portal.
  • Click on the edit application form option and fill in the necessary details.

IIT JAM Exam Pattern

The IIT JAM 2025 exam pattern follows a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format. It comprises three types of questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. The exam spans three hours and carries a total of 100 marks. Each subject paper is divided into distinct sections, with varying weightage for each question type. MCQs include negative marking for incorrect answers, whereas MSQs and NATs do not. The question papers evaluate candidates’ conceptual clarity, analytical ability, and problem-solving speed. IIT JAM Ranking

The IIT JAM ranking system is based on the candidate’s performance in the exam, with scores calculated out of 100 marks. Based on these scores, an All India Rank (AIR) is assigned for each subject paper. The final rank list is prepared by considering the total marks obtained, and in the case of a tie, various criteria such as lower negative scores, higher NAT or MSQ scores, and age are used for tie-breaking. Candidates who meet or exceed the subject-wise cutoff marks are included in the merit list. The number of candidates on the merit list depends on the total available seats for that particular paper across participating institutes.

IIT JAM Counselling

The IIT JAM 2025 counselling process involves the allocation of seats to qualified candidates based on their All India Rank (AIR), subject preference, and available seats across participating institutes. Eligible candidates must register for admission, fill in their choice of programs and institutes, and participate in the counselling rounds as per the official schedule. Seat allotment is conducted in multiple rounds, after which selected candidates must accept the offer by paying a seat acceptance fee and reporting to the allotted institute. Subsequent rounds may be held to fill vacant seats. Final admission is confirmed at the respective institute once the candidate completes all formalities, including document verification and fee payment.
