IIT JAM Counselling

The IIT JAM exam counselling (keyword)process begins soon after the result is declared. Candidates who qualify the exam are invited to participate in an online counselling procedure for admission to postgraduate programmes such as MSc, Joint MSc–PhD, MSc–PhD Dual Degree, and others offered by the participating IITs and institutes.

Counselling

The individuals who have qualified for the JAM exam should fill in the admission form as a next step. They have to fill in their choice of program and institution in the admission form based on which the candidates will be considered for admission. The admission process will be conducted in four rounds and those candidates who encounter admission in any one of these rounds are asked to log in at https://joaps.iitg.ac.in within the allotted time and should select any one of these three options

• Accept and Freeze
• Accept with Upgrade
• Reject and Quit

• If the applicant chooses "Accept and Freeze", then they take the provided seat and deny the opportunity to upgrade to a better preference in later rounds.
• If the applicant chooses "Accept with Upgrade", they approve the seat but would like to upgrade for to better preferences in the upcoming rounds.
• If the applicant chooses "Reject and Quit", they do not want to take the offered seat and would like to quit the admission process. Their offered seats will be cancelled and they will not be able to proceed with the admission process. For the "Reject and Quit" decision, the candidates will receive an OTP to their registered phone numbers which they have to enter to validate the decision.

Withdrawals and Final Admission

Candidates who accept a seat but later wish to withdraw can do so within a specified window. The seat booking fee will be refunded after a processing charge is deducted. Final admission requires reporting to the allotted institute with original documents. The biometric data (fingerprint) collected during the exam will be used for identity verification during admission.
