UGC NET

UGC NET is a national-level examination that is conducted to determine eligibility for college and university-level teaching and research positions in India. It is conducted twice a year by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The test is conducted in 85 subjects, which includes all major disciplines such as Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, and Engineering.

To appear for the exam, candidates must have a Master's degree or equivalent in the relevant subject from a recognized university. UGC NET is considered a highly competitive examination. The marks scored in this examination are used for determining the eligibility for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) positions in Indian universities and colleges. The eligibility criteria for these positions are based on the cut-off marks decided by the UGC.

Highlights of UGC-NET

  • The exam will be conducted twice a year in the month of June and December.
  • The exam is conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode since December 2018
  • The exam consists of two papers- Paper I and Paper II
  • Paper I is a general paper that tests the candidate's teaching Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, and General Awareness. Paper II is based on the specific subject chosen by the candidate. The syllabus for Paper II is based on the UGC curriculum for the chosen subject.
  • Candidates who pass the UGC-Net exam are eligible for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or Assistant Professorship in Indian universities and colleges.

UGC- NET Application Form

  • Candidates can apply for UGC NET through online mode only.
  • It is only necessary to submit one application form. More than one application form submitted will not be accepted.
  • Apply for online registration on the official website https://ugcnet.nta.nic.in/ using the personal mail id and phone number
  • Fill in the application form and upload scanned images of a recent photograph and signature
  • Pay the fees using Debit Card/Credit Card/UPI and keep proof of fee paid.
  • Only after the successful payment, the confirmation page of the online Application Form will be generated
  • Candidates should also install the ‘Sandes’ app to receive time-to-time notifications from NTA.

    UGC- NET Syllabus

    • The syllabus of the UGC NET can be downloaded from the UGC website: https://www.ugcnetonline.in/syllabus-new.php. For the 85 subjects of UGC-NET, UGC has prescribed the syllabus. Candidates holding a Master's degree in either mathematics or statistics, with a specialization in population studies, are also qualified to take the "Population Studies" subject.
    • The UGC NET syllabus consists of two papers: Paper I and Paper II.
    • The syllabus is designed to test the knowledge of candidates in the subject they have chosen for Paper II. It covers various topics and concepts that are included in the UGC curriculum for the respective subject. The curriculum for the particular subject includes several topics and concepts, all of which are covered in the syllabus.     UGC- NET Pattern

    The UGC-NET is a national examination in India that determines eligibility for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) positions. It has two papers: one on general aptitude and one on the chosen subject, both conducted in a single session as a computer-based test.

    • It will be conducted in CBT (Computer Based Test) only in multiple shifts.
    • Both papers will have objective-type and multiple-choice questions
    • Candidates have to complete the papers without any break
    • Every question must be attempted.
    • Each question of UGC NET will carry 2 marks

    UGC NET Ranking

    UGC-NET ranking determines eligibility for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship in Indian universities. Conducted by the National Testing Agency, it ranks candidates based on combined scores in two papers. High ranks qualify for JRF, while others may be eligible for teaching roles depending on category-wise cutoffs and merit lists.

    UGC- NET Counselling

    UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) counselling process typically involves the following steps in detail:

    • Candidates who have qualified for the UGC NET exam must register for the counselling process. The registration process typically involves submitting personal and educational details, contact information, and other required information online. Candidates may also be required to upload scanned copies of certain documents, such as their UGC NET scorecard, as part of the registration process.
    • After the registration process is complete, candidates must fill in their choices of colleges and courses in order of preference.
    • Based on the preferences filled by the candidates and the availability of seats in the college, seats will be allotted to candidates.
    • After the allotment of seats, candidates must verify their documents in person at the allotted college.
    • Candidates must pay the course fees at the allotted college to confirm their seats.
    • After completing the above steps, candidates must report to the allotted college on the specified date and complete the admission process.

    The fee is Rs. 1100/- for the General/Unreserved category
    National Eligibility Test conducted by the National Educational Testing Bureau of University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship in Indian universities and colleges.
    The UGC-NET results are announced within a month of the exam date.
    Each question carries 2 marks, and marks will not be deducted for incorrect answers.
