UPSC NDA exam preparation requires a focused strategy, strong fundamentals, and consistent practice. Aspirants should begin by thoroughly understanding the UPSC NDA exam pattern and syllabus. For mathematics, the NCERT books for classes 11 and 12 are essential for building concepts, followed by solving previous years' papers and mock tests. The General Ability Test (GAT) demands attention to English grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and General Knowledge, including subjects like Physics, History, and Current Affairs. Reading newspapers and monthly magazines helps improve awareness. Regular revision, time management, and solving practice papers are key to boosting confidence. A balanced approach covering both papers will enhance overall UPSC NDA exam preparation and increase the chances of selection.

The NDA 2025 exam is conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for admission to the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy and the Indian Naval Academy. The official schedule, NDA 1, will be held on 13 April 2025 and NDA 2 on 14 September 2025. The exam is conducted offline (pen and paper-based), and candidates must use a black ballpoint pen to mark their responses. It consists of two papers – Mathematics (300 marks) and General Ability Test (GAT) (600 marks), both of which are of 2 hours 30 minutes duration. A negative marking of 0.33 marks is applicable for each wrong answer. Except for the English section, the question papers are bilingual (English and Hindi). Candidates who qualify the written test are called for the SSB Interview, which carries 900 marks and assesses leadership, personality, and aptitude.

The UPSC NDA ranking and cutoff are determined based on a candidate’s combined performance in the written examination and the SSB Interview. The cutoff varies each year depending on factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of candidates appearing, and the total vacancies available. Candidates who score above the prescribed cutoff in the written exam are shortlisted for the SSB Interview. Final selection and NDA ranking are based on the overall merit, which includes performance in both stages. Allocation to the Army, Navy, or Air Force wings is done according to a candidate’s rank, service preference, and availability of seats in the respective academies.

The UPSC NDA Counselling 2025 does not follow a traditional counselling format. Instead, candidates who qualify the written exam are called for the SSB Interview, which includes psychological tests, group tasks, and personal interviews to assess leadership and personality traits. Those who clear the SSB must undergo a medical examination as per Armed Forces standards. A final merit list is prepared based on performance in both the written exam and SSB. Candidates are allotted to the Army, Navy, or Air Force based on their rank, preference, and available vacancies. Selected candidates must complete document verification before admission to the National Defence Academy or the Naval Academy.
